Type 1, 2 and 3 SPDs
Type 1 devices are available in either 25kA per pole or 12.5kA per pole. If you have an LPS and you know the risk level, risk level I / II will be 25kA per pole, risk level III / IV will be 12.5kA per pole. If it is unknown, according to BS EN 62305, it should be treated as if it is a risk level I. If you have an overhead supply, it will be the 12.5kA per pole device that is required.
Type 2 and 3 SPDs
Type 2 devices are industry standard in terms of kA ratings, and are not selected on the ratings of the DB, as they sit in parallel with the supply. We also have the single module design for a consumer unit.
